Business Approach to Writing
Beginning with routine documents such as memos, e-mails and letters, your instructor leads you through the stages of the writing process. As the course progresses you build skills in report writing, crafting negative and other difficult messages, composing responses, briefing notes and news releases. Whether the documents you create are brief memos or substantial proposals, emphasis throughout is on expressing your ideas to achieve the maximum impact.

This course offers a general study of Canadian law – both its roots and related case law, with particular emphasis on its application to business. Areas to be addressed include contracts, commercial transactions, fiduciary relationships, business organizations, torts, e-commerce, intellectual property, and real property law.

Emphasis is placed on current management trends and practices within a Canadian setting, with an additional focus on how real-world businesses operate within constantly changing environments.

Financial Management
In any corporation or business, financial decision-making revolves around investment, financial, and asset management. You already have a good knowledge of mathematics and accounting and now want to explore the principles of corporate finance at an intermediate level. In this challenging and highly structured course you study how finance impacts the development of an effective business strategy and examine, step-by-step, the processes that result in sound financial decisions for a range of business enterprises.

Introductory Economics
This course introduces both micro and macro economic models and looks at the role of individual consumers, firms, and industries within the larger economic system. Topics include supply and demand, distribution of income, structure of competition, business cycle theory, monetary and fiscal policy, economic growth and international trade. The course applies theory to current economic issues with an emphasis on Canadian context.

Bridging the gap between marketing theory and applications, this course is of particular relevance to those wishing to broaden their knowledge of the functional areas of marketing. Because organizations today are undergoing such unprecedented change, the ability to manage people is more important than ever. In this course, you examine current theories of management and explore how organizational structure, technology, and environment influence people. Emphasis is on the role and function of management and supervisory factors such as motivation and group dynamics. Specific topics include leadership, conflict, and change management.

Foundations of Risk Management
The course introduces you to the risk management process and starts with an enterprise-wide perspective of risk. Risk identification and analysis tools and techniques, including risk registers and risk mapping are discussed. Global risk management standards and guidelines are also covered.
