Canada Logistics Conference 2019  -  Learning Sessions  -  Workshop: Strategies for Addressing the Talent Gap

Strategies for Addressing the Talent Gap

Get ahead on the 'war for talent' and learn how to leverage best-in-class hiring strategies

Friday, October 25 • 8:35 am - 9:30 am

Talk of the looming exodus of baby boomers has been common for some time. But that crisis is no longer looming – it’s here now. An average of 10 million people per year in North America are predicted to retire in the next five years, and with them will go institutional knowledge and organizational structure. Careers in supply chain continue to compete with better-known business streams such as marketing and finance, and educational standards of “continuous learning and retraining” are struggling to keep pace. All this at a time when more competitive pressure than ever before is being placed on the supply chain due to e-commerce and technology. The risks and costs of not developing a best-in-class talent acquisition, retention and succession planning strategy are high.

The main message for participants is that tomorrow’s supply chain landscape will look very different than it does today. It will be faster, more automated and sophisticated and require more sophisticated talent who are adept at managing complex systems and flow of information. Unless companies modernize their hiring strategies, they will be left behind.

This interactive, discussion-based session will offer tangible, concrete ideas to help companies develop short and long-term talent strategies. It will focus on topics of: loosening immigration, recruiting from other industries, compensation/benefits, higher educational standards and certification, industry outreach, workplace culture and more.
