Last-mile & Reverse Logistics

During the height of Pandemic restrictions, Stats Canada showed that eCommerce quickly accelerated from 3% to 15% as a percentage of total retail sales. This was a significant swing for many retailers, 3PL carriers, couriers and other businesses, as consumers changed category spending, channels and (cubic) volumes.
 
During the early part of the restrictions, businesses were strictly in reaction mode as they were hit with significant localised demands and resource bottlenecks, multiple disruptive events to product availability, and general chaos with many businesses unclear on how long the restrictions would last, and inertia around making significant changes to their capital spending and business models.
 
With the Pandemic shocks mostly behind us, the pace of inflation accelerating and continued uncertainty around geopolitical events, this panel discussion will explore:
 
  • Key lessons learned and how different businesses retooled to adjust to the demand shocks and waves of accumulating disruption

  • Explore some of the economic challenges with “free deliveries” and “free returns” for online orders

  • With Amazon continuing to set the pace of customer expectations for shorter lead times, how can the rest of the sector compete in this environment, while continuing to work on their ESG credentials/obligations

  • Explore some of the key areas leaders need to consider as the employment pool experiences a paradigm shift within “essential roles” from being an employers’ market to one driven by talent and candidate availability, particularly around retaining staff.

She is focused on the customer journey and developing services to delight consumers.  She is recognized for her expertise in the eCommerce ecosystem, including platforms, web services, and what online shoppers want in their end-to-end experience. 

Over her career, she has worked with hundreds of eCommerce merchants and platforms to integrate technology into their websites, enhance customers’ shopping experiences, reduce customer service calls, and increase revenue. In doing so, she has leveraged Canada Post’s unique insights and extensive research into the evolving e-commerce market, and consumer behaviours.

Valerie holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Ottawa, and a Masters in Project Management from George Washington University. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
