In this course, you’ll learn the basics of financial accounting as they can be applied in nearly every business. The course will walk you through basic financial statements before moving to more concepts such as the accounting cycle, debit, and credit. Finally, you’ll learn how to report financial transactions and how to apply the theory of what you’ve learned.
Please note, this course is estimated to require 19-22 hours of work per week.
The fee for Accounting: The Fundamentals is $850 plus applicable tax.
This fee does not include the cost of textbooks. Textbooks are purchased separately from the University of Toronto Bookstore (or you can source your textbook locally/online). International students pay an additional fee of $125 plus 5% GST per course. There are no refunds issued for courses taken directly through CITT once your registration and payment has been received and processed.
The required textbook(s) will be confirmed by the University of Toronto approximately one month before the course begins. As soon as this information is available we will update this page, and send all registered students information on how to order your textbook directly from the University of Toronto bookstore (or, you may also opt to source your textbook locally/online).
Course work for Accounting: The Fundamentals includes a series of assignments which are due throughout the semester.
Your Accounting: The Fundamentals exam will be held at an exam centre local to you—the University of Toronto coordinates exam centres across Canada, and internationally when necessary. Exam dates cannot be changed. Visit the Key Dates page to see exam dates for upcoming semesters as they are scheduled.
Grades are reported as Honours, Pass, or Fail. To obtain a Pass, learners must obtain a minimum grade of 50%. To achieve Honours, learners must earn a total grade of 80% or higher.
