Course Description

In Foundations of Risk Management, you’ll learn the basics of the principles of the risk management process, beginning with an enterprise-wide perspective of risk. Through the course, you’ll become familiar with best practices for risk identification, as well as common risk identification and analysis tools and techniques. The course also addresses other important financial risks such as capital investment and liquidity so that upon completing this course, you’ll have a solid foundation for assessing the entire spectrum of risks to a business.

Topics include:

  • Risk registers
  • Risk mapping
  • Global risk management standards
  • How governance and control affects risk management
  • Risk oversight, monitoring, and assurance

Course grads will be able to:

  • Use risk assessment techniques to identify business exposure to accidental risks
  • Develop risk management processes
  • Justify the implementation of risk management processes to management


Course Work and Final Exam

Course work for Foundations of Risk Management includes a series of assignments which are due throughout the semester.

Your final exam will be held at an exam centre local to you—the University of Toronto coordinates exam centres across Canada, and internationally when necessary. Exam dates cannot be changed. Visit the course calendar page to see exam dates for upcoming semesters as they are scheduled.

 

Learning Assessment & Grades

Grades are reported as Honours, Pass, or Fail. To obtain a Pass, learners must obtain a minimum grade of 50%. To achieve Honours, learners must earn a total grade of 80% or higher.
