North Pacific Green Corridor moves forward with new boss
A supply chain group you might not have heard of – yet – is moving forward with its mandate to decarbonize the trade corridor between Canada, Japan and South Korea.
The North Pacific Green Corridor Consortium (NPGCC) was developed to encourage future collaboration between global industry stakeholders with the intention of helping decarbonize the transportation infrastructure for commodities between the three North Pacific trading partners. It is a group of stakeholders from bulk commodity producers, railway and intermodal transportation providers, marine vessel owners and operators, port facilities, port authorities, and technology providers.
Current NPGCC members include CN, Mitsubishi Canada Ltd, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers, Oldendorff Carriers, Prince Rupert Port Authority, Teck Resources Ltd, Trigon Pacific Terminals, and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. They represent approximately 25 percent of the more than 100 million tonnes of bulk commodity products shipped annually through the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert.
The organization is a registered Canadian not-for-profit and is based out of Vancouver. It was born out of a June 2023 G7 Transport Ministers’ Summit in Japan and was formally launched on April 15, 2024. It is focused on key projects and infrastructure to optimize energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and ensure supply chain resilience and security. Its priorities are agricultural products, metal concentrates and steelmaking coal.
David Molinski was appointed in May 2025 as executive director with a mandate to advance the organization’s aims. Molinski will lead NPGCC’s efforts with over 30 years of experience in government and the energy and cleantech sectors. His career includes roles as assistant deputy minister of the Oil and Gas Division at the Government of British Columbia’s Ministry of Energy, Low-Carbon Solutions, leading the Policy and External Affairs team with Chevron Canada, and as the founding CEO of CO2 Lock Corporation, where he developed carbon mineralization and storage solutions.
Molinski has a BA (Economics) from the University of Winnipeg and a Master’s of Natural Resource Management from the University of Manitoba.
“The North Pacific Green Corridor Consortium is focused on fostering collaboration to decarbonize and strengthen trade connections between Canada, Japan, and South Korea,” said François Bélanger, chair of the NPGCC Board. “David’s expertise in the energy and cleantech sectors makes him well-suited to lead these efforts and guide the consortium toward achieving its goals.”
The organization is looking at ideas that will optimize energy efficiency with the specific goal of advancing projects and infrastructure required to achieve significant emissions reductions in the near term. Consideration will be given to the potential production, storage and bunkering of lower-carbon fuels and propulsion options for use by NPGCC members and other parties.
“Global trade is facing a critical juncture, and we have an opportunity to make real, meaningful change,” said Molinski.
“By collaborating with industry leaders, policymakers and Indigenous communities across the terrestrial and marine supply chain, we intend to find and deliver innovative solutions that have the potential to reduce emissions and bolster trade resilience for a stronger future for international trade. I look forward to working alongside our members and partners to drive progress, deliver impactful solutions, and help build a greener, more resilient supply chain.”
The NPGCC is open to additional members and partners, in particular end-use customers. For more information visit: https://www.northpacificgreencorridor.org/
