Melissa Mulcahy, CCLP, CCLMP Receives CITT’s 2025 Award of Excellence

Melissa Mulcahy was recognized with the prestigious CITT Award of Excellence at Canada's Logistics Conference 2026

This year, CITT is thrilled to present its Award of Excellence to Melissa Mulcahy, CCLP, CCLMP. The award recognizes an entire career of experience, leadership, professional development, and giving back to the industry.

For over a decade, Melissa has served as a heartbeat of the West Coast logistics network. Whether she was steering national strategy on the CITT Board of Directors from 2013 to 2020 or acting as the foundational pillar of the Vancouver Area Council, her footprint on the industry is undeniable. Yet, despite a resume packed with achievements, including championing everything from intermodal solutions to green transportation, the news of the award still caught her off guard.

"I was surprised to learn I had been chosen for this award," she admits. "The list of previous winners is long and distinguished, and I’m truly honoured to be joining their ranks."

Discovering the Energy of the Supply Chain

Like many lifelong logistics leaders, Melissa’s entry into the field wasn't scripted from day one. It required stumbling into the fast-paced reality of moving freight to realize her calling.

"I had always wanted a career in business," she reflects, "but it wasn’t until I stepped into a temporary transportation-related role that I found work that truly resonated with me. I was immediately drawn to the energy, camaraderie, and constant opportunity to learn."

That temporary role ignited a trajectory that would see Melissa manage large operational and IT transformations throughout British Columbia. But as she climbed the ranks, she realized that the technical side of the business was only half the equation. The real "secret sauce" of the industry was its people. Specifically, the CITT members who took the time to show her the ropes.

"Many of the leaders I worked with held CITT designations and were exceptional role models," Melissa says. "Their mentorship, encouragement, and willingness to share knowledge helped me grow through roles in transportation, supply chain, and IT, and inspired me to support others in the same way."

Representation and Building Bridges

As a celebrated leader in BC, Melissa has earned a fierce reputation for bridging gaps—connecting veteran supply chain executives with eager newcomers and students. A massive catalyst for her community involvement was the desire to change the demographic makeup of local boardrooms and terminal yards.

"When I joined the logistics field, women were still underrepresented," Melissa notes. "Seeing women in leadership through CITT was incredibly meaningful to me, and I wanted to encourage others in the same way. It’s rewarding to see the progress that has been made over the years."

That progress didn't happen by accident. It was forged by leaders like Melissa and her dedicated Vancouver Area Council, elevating CITT’s regional visibility, coordinating educational tours, and running annual networking mixers that gave emerging professionals a seat at the table.

"I find real satisfaction in supporting students, newcomers, and others seeking a meaningful career path," she says. "Building connections and learning from one another remains an important part of success in logistics."

"We’re never too old to benefit from mentors, and no one should have to navigate their career alone."

Words of Wisdom for the Next Generation

When asked what advice she would pass down to the young professionals currently entering a volatile, rapidly shifting global supply chain market, Melissa emphasizes the importance of calculated risk and continuous curiosity.

"Don’t be afraid to try new things or say yes to opportunities outside your comfort zone—you never know where they may lead," she advises. "Stay curious and keep learning. There are always people willing to share their experience, support you through challenges, and celebrate your wins."

A Network of Gratitude

Melissa is quick to point out the peers and family members who gave her the space to lead, innovate, and give back.

"There are many CITT members I’ve had the privilege of serving with—both on the Vancouver council and the Board of Directors—who have helped shape my journey," Melissa says. "I would especially like to mention Dawn-Ann Byers, who first encouraged me to volunteer with CITT. The relationships built through the association often stay with us throughout our careers."

She also emphasizes that her extensive volunteer work and industry advocacy required a strong foundation at home. "I want to thank my family for supporting me through the times when work, travel, and community involvement meant I couldn’t always be as present as I wanted to be."

Through her integrity, modern vision, and genuine dedication to lifting others up as she climbs, Melissa Mulcahy perfectly personifies the values of CITT.
