PECO Pallet Receives CITT’s 2026 Environmental Sustainability Award

PECO Pallet has been recognized as the 2026 winner of CITT's Environmental Sustainability Award (SME Category)

CITT is proud to announce PECO Pallet as the winner of the 2026 Environmental Sustainability Award in the small-medium business category The recognition follows a landmark year for PECO, which saw the company move from foundational planning to the active deployment of carbon-reduction technology across its operations.

From Strategy to Execution

In 2025, PECO reached a significant internal milestone by setting its first formal greenhouse gas reduction targets, including a commitment to reach Net Zero by 2050. However, for Katie Bishop, PECO’s ESG Program Manager, the most important work is what is happening right now on the ground. "It’s a very exciting time because we’re kind of getting to take the action," says Bishop. "We’ve spent time measuring, we’ve spent time setting up a foundation and setting these targets, and now we’re really getting to hit the ground running on different initiatives."

These initiatives are already in motion. As of early 2026, PECO has launched an electric truck pilot in Southern California, converted multiple facilities to renewable energy, and transitioned a select facility to an entirely electric forklift fleet.

Built into the DNA

A recurring theme in PECO’s success is that sustainability isn't viewed as a secondary department, but as a functional part of the logistics model. Bishop notes that the "share and reuse" nature of pallet pooling naturally lends itself to a circular economy.

"Sustainability has really been a part of how we operate, even before you could say it was trendy. It's really been built into our business model," Bishop explains. "When sustainability is embedded as part of the business strategy rather than seen as something separate is when it's most successful."

Empowering Customers and Employees

 PECO’s approach also offers tangible benefits to its partners. To help customers meet their own ESG goals, PECO provides CO2 Saving Certificates, which quantify the emissions saved by using PECO’s pooled pallets compared to traditional alternatives. This transparency is backed by a cross-functional internal culture. The company’s Sustainability Steering Committee, composed of volunteers from across various departments, ensures that ideas come from the people closest to the operations.

"I got interested in sustainability because I knew I always wanted to do something that made a difference," says Bishop. "If you can work with companies that have such a large impact, it’s a great opportunity to make a difference on a very large scale."

By participating in the EcoVadis rating system and partnering with Tunley Environmental for third-party validation, PECO has proven that environmental stewardship is a competitive advantage. Their focus on reducing paint consumption, optimizing routes, and piloting new energy sources isn't just about compliance. It's about staying ahead of customer expectations in a changing landscape.
